Jackline Chepkoech is the new Commonwealth Games 3, 000m steeplechase champion.

Chepkoech, the 2021 World Under-20 3,000 steeplechase gold medalist gave Kenya its second gold medal after winning the women’s Steeplechase in a record of 9:15.68.

The Kenyan had been running side by side with Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai exchanging leads, but the latter’s unfortunate trip and fall off a barrier in the penultimate lap was a blessing in disguise for the Kenyan as she earned more ground on her lead.

Previous record was 9.19.51 by Dorcas Inzukru of Uganda
