Top officials of the UDA party have hatched a plan to kick out impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as deputy party leader.
President William Ruto is the UDA party leader.
The UDA constitution states that the deputy president shall be the party’s deputy leader.
There had been plans to expand the UDA leadership, with two more deputy party leader positions proposed to be created.
It is not clear if the plan, which reportedly targeted to clip Gachagua’s wings, will proceed following the latest political developments.
Following Gachagua’s removal from office, UDA top honchos have planned to replace him as deputy party leader in the next two weeks.
They hope that once the ongoing court process where Gachagua has challenged his impeachment is over and his removal is upheld, they will proceed and oust him from UDA.
The plotters want Gachagua expelled from the UDA party altogether should his impeachment be affirmed by the High Court.
It has emerged that President Ruto’s allies want to install Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki the UDA deputy party leader.
Kindiki was nominated by President Ruto to replace Gachagua as deputy president but he is yet to take the oath of office following a court order.
